Position: Laboratory Assistant
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Schedule: Day shift, Monday to Friday (7:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) with alternating half-day Saturdays
Work Arrangement: On-site
Location: Hawkesbury, ON (monthly travel to Ottawa required)

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for collecting blood samples and other patient specimens, as well as supporting various patient testing procedures. You will work closely with team members to maintain high-quality standards and a respectful workplace. Strong customer service skills are essential, as many patients may feel nervous or uncomfortable during appointments. Compassion, professionalism, and clear communication are key to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming and professional experience for all patients
- Accurately input patient and test details for Ministry of Health documentation
- Perform venipuncture and collect specimens following established procedures
- Prepare, organize, and route specimens appropriately
- Conduct ECGs, Holter monitor hookups, paternity testing, and urine, drug, and breath alcohol collections
- Ensure all specimens and paperwork meet SOP and transportation requirements
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to quality, safety, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma plus completion of a recognized Laboratory or Medical Laboratory Assistant program with phlebotomy training
- Patient-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and supporting anxious patients
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced setting
- Strong attention to detail
- Clear and professional English communication skills, both written and verbal
