About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for mid-2027. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location

This position will be based in Saskatoon. The associated work schedule will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP. This position will require regular travel to the Jansen Mine Site.

Purpose

To support the efficient and safe operation of warehousing and logistics activities at the Jansen site, with a focus on data integrity, safety compliance, and continuous improvement.

About The Role

The Procurement Manager – Contracts is a leadership position responsible for managing execution-phase contracts for the Jansen Stage 1 Project in Saskatchewan, Canada. This role will be embedded within our execution delivery partner, Hatch-Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV), as part of an Integrated Project Team (IPT), and will have approximately four direct reports.

The primary scope includes all contracts related to mine construction and development. The successful candidate will work closely with the incumbent HBJV Procurement Manager and will assume established relationships with project cost, planning, finance, legal, and package owners, as well as BHP functional stakeholders and other internal and external partners.

This position is also part of the BHP Potash Procurement Leadership Team, which focuses on fostering an open and inclusive team culture and developing our procurement capability to best support project needs.

The Specific Requirements Of The Role Are As Follows

  • Manage a team of ~4 directly reporting BHP staff and lead the other IPT (HBJV) procurement practitioners with indirect reporting lines.
  • Evaluate risk profiles, project drivers, and contracting options to inform the development of contracting strategies, and contracts in alignment with project execution strategies.
  • Drive a commercial mindset with focus on being a value adding commercial partner to the project in the mining scope.
  • Take ownership of all contractual matters related to the mining development scope and ensure a strong cost focus where contractual levers are utilized to the benefit of the project.
  • Provide procurement functional expertise in the administration and management of contracts, review, analysis, negotiation, and settlement of claims, and close out of contracts.
  • Drive governance and assurance of procurement activities in line with BHP and IPT standards, systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Actively contribute to the BHP Potash Procurement Leadership team to enhance our capabilities as part of the growing BHP Potash region.

  • Bring extensive project and contract experience, with strong governance knowledge
  • Have a proven track record in CAPEX procurement and managing complex stakeholders
  • Demonstrate collaborative, adaptable, and best-for-project approaches
  • Show motivating leadership focused on team development

Essential Skills

  • Leading Commercial, Supply, or PC&P teams (direct and indirect reports)
  • Procurement, cost, planning, safety, and quality expertise in major projects
  • Managing contractual disputes and project delivery in mining or similar industries
  • Strong stakeholder management and governance processes
  • Experience with collaborative contracting, reimbursable/incentivized contracts
  • Coaching and mentoring team members

Desirable Skills

  • Indigenous contracting approaches
  • Familiarity with systems (ProCon, GCMS, SmartPlant Foundation)
  • Mentorship and adaptability in diverse teams
