A vacancy exists for a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant supporting our PUF/Pre-K and possibly Kinder garten classrooms across the Division, with a job allocation of 1.0 FTE working 7 hours per day and 35 hours/week. Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants provide support and assistance to speech-language pathologists working in schools. SLPA’s carry out specific communication intervention and treatment programs that are planned, directed and supervised by speech-language pathologists to improve students’ communication skills. Duties include direct treatment and indirect services as delegated.

Primary Speech-Language Pathology Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct language therapy activities that are based on goals developed in coordination with speech-language pathologists for classroom consultation, and/or small groups.
  • Administer screening tools and/or assist with client assessment, partake in planning and evaluation of communication services
  • Building school team capacity with universal, targeted and individualized strategies
  • Experience with AAC would be an asset.
  • Monitor and document students' progress during therapy sessions
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding students
  • Modify and prepare materials for students
  • Maintain inventory of assessment/treatment materials
  • Maintain accurate documentation of the consultative process
  • Communicate observations of students’ progress collected in data sheets
  • Participate in student team conferences when requested by the SLP
  • Regularly meet with their supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Attend Inclusive Learning staff meetings monthly
  • Attend and support school teams and families during Blessed Beginnings
  • Prepare and present materials for the community of practice. Attend and support school teams during community of practice meetings
  • Prepare and lead professional development for division within scope of practice
  • Speech Language Pathology Assistants must agree to respect the confidentiality and personal integrity of students, parents, teachers and other staff.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Inclusive Learning Services, the Early Learning Consultant and/or the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist, this position provides pervasive support for students who have severe speech and/or language delays, disabilities or severe medical diagnoses. The primary focus is to work directly with children, school staff and families to provide support for a range of needs that impact classroom/academic functioning, speech and language development and behavior.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

To serve as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, applicants must possess:

  • A Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant/Rehabilitation diploma from a recognized institution

This position commences on January 7, 2026. Grid Level 4. Transportation required with paid mileage.
