About this opportunity:
Cenovus’ Atlantic Region is seeking a Senior Production Engineer for the St. John’s, NL office. In this role, you will support safe and efficient production operations across the White Rose field, including the West White Rose platform, associated subsea assets and flowlines, and the SeaRose FPSO topsides processing and gas-handling systems. You will provide technical expertise to both onshore and offshore Production Operations teams as they oversee the full operational scope of the field.
This role also offers the opportunity to lead or contribute to several innovative systems and initiatives, including the Online Subsea Advisor (supporting subsea leak detection and hydrate monitoring), the Emissions AI program (providing artificial intelligence–based emissions insights), and other forward-looking projects aligned with Cenovus’ value of Make It Better.
This position is located at our St. John, NL office.

What you’ll do:
- Optimize efficiency, reliability, and uptime of topsides processing equipment.
- Manage and analyze alarms and trips to ensure safe and stable operations.
- Troubleshoot production system issues and coordinate resolution with relevant teams.
- Participate in incident investigations and formal risk assessments, including HAZOPs, PHAs, and “What If” reviews.
- Identify and address factors affecting production performance, equipment reliability, or overall operability.
- Support the development, review, and updating of operational procedures and work instructions.
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering considered an asset.
- A member in good standing or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers and Geoscientist Newfoundland & Laboratory (PEGNL) is required
- Minimum 8 years of related offshore oil industry experience, with knowledge of offshore production equipment, systems, and control-of-work processes.
- Experience with subsea facilities and well operations (including interventions/workovers) is an asset.
- Understanding of reservoir behavior and limitations, with knowledge of drilling, completions, or well intervention activities.
- Experience working with SAP and proficiency in data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Spotfire).
