Accounts Payable Accountant at Traine Construction and Development

As an AP Accountant, you'll be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing and managing the company’s accounts payable transactions. This role involves ensuring timely payments to vendors, maintaining organized financial records, reconciling discrepancies, and supporting the Director of Finance in the daily operations of the AP function. This role will work closely with internal teams and external vendors to resolve inquiries, ensuring compliance with accounting practices and company policies.
This position is based out of our Head Office in Kelowna, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accounts payable functions, including coding, entering, batching, and verifying invoices to ensure timely and accurate payments.
- Review and reconcile vendor statements, purchase orders, and AP transactions, resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Maintain vendor records, set up new accounts, and manage PO trackers and cheque deposits.
- Process and issue cheques and electronic payments while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting regulations.
- Assist with reconciliation of company credit card statements and ensure proper documentation.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders, responding promptly to inquiries.
- Investigate discrepancies in financial data and apply logical problem-solving to ensure accuracy in AP processing.
- Assist with month-end closing, reporting, and audit preparation for AP-related activities.
- Maintain organized financial records, both electronically and in hard copy, and support special projects as needed.
- Generate and review AP reports for management, supporting data-driven decisions.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations, company procedures, and best practices in all AP transactions.
- Stay updated on accounts payable standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency within the AP department.
- Remain calm under pressure, meet deadlines consistently, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Participate in team meetings, provide input, and perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or certification in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in an accounts payable or accounting role.
- Knowledge of accounts payable procedures, accounting rules, and best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and experience with ERP systems (e.g., Yardi is an asset).
- Ability to handle high volumes of data entry with precision and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the month-end close process is an asset.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a logical approach to work.
