The Environmental Project Management Specialist, Infrastructure Projects (4-year term) is responsible for providing environmental project management and/or technical expertise on environmental aspects associated with project development during environmental assessment and permitting phases for assigned projects.

What you do:

  • As a key member of the Project Team, working together with the VFPA team and the consultant team, this position provides technical expertise and consultation advice for assigned projects. Act as day-to-day lead on environmental aspects of assigned projects ensuring VFPA expectations and interests are continually met.
  • Critically review and evaluate consultant deliverables in line with agreed budget and objectives of the task in hand.
  • Act as day-to-day liaison between the Project Team and VFPA. Solicit expert advice on technical issues and provide regular progress updates and communicate emerging issues.
  • Participate in the development of terms of reference for environmental studies and prepare, as required, requests for proposals for selection of specialist consultants to support the assigned project.
  • Work with specialist consultants in the preparation of project planning documentation including scope, schedule, budget, communication, change management and stakeholder engagement, and risks.
  • Collaborate with project teams to determine the best approach and activities necessary for executing specific projects. Ensure the approach is documented and followed.
  • Work with the specialist consulting team and contribute to the monitoring of the scope of work. Monitor plan implementation and evaluate progress of specialist consultants and deliverables.
  • Provide VFPA representation at Project Team meetings and meetings with environmental regulatory agencies, community, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders, where tact and diplomacy will be required to facilitate competing priorities to ensure VFPA interests are met.
  • Prepare project status updates and presentations, as required.
  • Coordinate and participate in post project reviews and document process improvement recommendations.
  • Coordinate and participate in environmental management, monitoring and follow-up programs as required for assigned projects.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor of Science or another acceptable university degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience with environmental assessment (or recent environmental practice) and technical requirements on large capital infrastructure projects, preferably within marine or port environments.
  • Experience in design and implementation of environmental study programs and familiarity with both federal and provincial environmental regulations and jurisdiction would be an asset.
  • Particular experience working on Fisheries Act Authorization Applications would be an advantage.
  • Experience in working with multi-discipline engineering and science teams and/or PMP certification would be highly desirable.

Location: Vancouver, Canada

Job type: Bargaining Unit, Full-Time, Temporary, Hybrid

Working environment: Normal office environment including some exposure to the waterfront and construction sites, in any weather conditions, may be required. Occasional evening and weekend work during off hours, to participate in public meetings and open houses. During the panel process, frequent evening and weekend work during off hours may be required.
