The Electronic Manufacturing Process Specialist plays a key role in the new product launch phase through early design reviews, managing the prototype phase with suppliers, and addressing design and process issues between contract manufacturers and engineering during the steady-state manufacturing phase, ensuring quality and on-time delivery of hardware. The role supports hardware design and review processes from a manufacturing perspective, ensuring technologies selected are optimized for a railway environment while supporting multiple hardware platforms under constant development.

The Electronic Manufacturing Process Specialist plays a key role in the new product launch phase through early design reviews, managing the prototype phase with suppliers, and addressing design and process issues between contract manufacturers and engineering during the steady-state manufacturing phase, ensuring quality and on-time delivery of hardware. The role supports hardware design and review processes from a manufacturing perspective, ensuring technologies selected are optimized for a railway environment while supporting multiple hardware platforms under constant development.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide support on-site to Electronics Assembly Contract Manufacturers in the introduction of new products to manufacturing.
- Work closely with Electronic Hardware Engineering in the design review cycles of new electronic assemblies.
- Participate in and drive cost reduction opportunities associated with manufacturing processes and the supply base.
- Support the DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis process between designers and Electronic Assembly Contract Manufacturers.
- Review and provide input to the supply chain regarding contract manufacturer quotes and NREs.
- Manage the technical relationship between HITACHI and its suppliers, including the technical evaluation and qualification of new suppliers.
- Assist with CM yield improvement (monitoring metrics and initiating action plans to improve yield through process or design improvements).
- Support procurement and quality departments in the evaluation and audit of existing and potential new suppliers.
- Support the ramp-up of new suppliers (HITACHI product, process, and procedures).
- Coordinate and resolve technical issues between manufacturing and engineering.
- Publish and maintain HITACHI workmanship standards employed by Electronic Assembly Contract Manufacturers, in addition to Industry Standards.
- Work closely with the HW Test Solutions team to propose and develop manufacturing test strategies for newly designed products.
- Provide input to the Engineering Change Notice process.
- Review and verify HITACHI mechanical and assembly drawings, BOMs, specifications, and electronic component datasheets with meticulous attention to detail.
- Create HITACHI internal part numbers in Material Master in SAP.
- Assemble and validate product data packs.
- University Bachelor or Master Degree in Industrial/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in electronic manufacturing as a Manufacturing Engineer and New Product Introduction to manufacturing.
- Broad experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Hardware Design.
- Expertise in applying NPI (New Product Introduction) best practices, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Clear understanding of PCBA, box build, and cable assembly operations in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
- Understanding of printed circuit board manufacturing processes.
- Advanced logical reasoning to develop effective designs for products and processes.
- Proven initiative and resourcefulness in solving manufacturing problems identified by Contract Manufacturers.
- Knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD, Solid Edge, etc.).
- Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, and IPC-A-620).
- Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to staying current with relevant technology.
- Strong attention to detail.
- English language fluency is mandatory.
- Strong verbal skills to interact effectively and professionally across various forums.
- Well-developed technical writing skills for reports, presentations, and documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and tactful communication skills to work confidently with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, and customers.
- 1–2 years of experience managing contract manufacturers and suppliers.
- Work experience in the rail industry, specifically in hardware signaling systems.
- Prior experience with SAP and Shared Palma systems
