DMC Recruitment Group has partnered with a leading distributor of premium architectural surfaces and building materials to recruit a Sales Manager for the Northern & Central California region. This role is ideal for a proactive, strategic sales leader who thrives in a high-growth environment and enjoys mentoring and developing sales teams.
The Sales Manager will oversee a regional sales team, implement sales strategies, and drive both short- and long-term revenue growth. This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the A&D, construction, or building materials markets. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Sales.
Position Overview
The Sales Manager will lead and support a team responsible for promoting a diverse portfolio of architectural surface products across the Northern & Central California territory. This includes developing sales plans, setting performance goals, supporting lead-generation initiatives, and ensuring the team delivers exceptional customer engagement.
This role requires someone who understands how to motivate customers and sales teams alike—someone who can translate market knowledge into strategy and revenue development. A high level of creativity, independence, and strategic planning ability is expected.

Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Development
- Oversee, mentor, and support the regional sales team on day-to-day activities.
- Develop and execute business plans that align with regional growth targets.
- Set individual sales goals and provide continuous coaching, feedback, and skill development.
- Conduct annual 1:1 performance reviews and support ongoing professional development.
- Facilitate product knowledge training and support team readiness for market expansion.
- Build and grow sales across the company's product portfolio in the Northern & Central California region.
- Meet planned sales goals and drive consistent performance across the territory.
- Utilize Salesforce to maintain accurate dashboards, forecasts, and KPIs; coach the team on CRM best practices.
- Track and analyze sales activity, reporting results and performance trends as required.
- Identify opportunities for new business, lead generation programs, and customer engagement.
- Promote all product lines and partner brands in the architectural and design community.
- Understand customer needs and align product solutions effectively.
- Maintain strong relationships within the A&D, construction, and fabricator communities.
- Recommend product or service enhancements to strengthen customer satisfaction and improve sales potential.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a sales team.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to sell to customer needs.
- Excellent relationship-building and coaching capabilities.
- Strategic planning and sales forecasting experience.
- Market knowledge within architectural products or building materials.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to manage processes and budgets.
- Self-starter with high initiative and a results-driven mindset.
- College degree preferred.
- 1-3+ years of sales leadership or outside sales experience, ideally within the A&D, architectural products, or construction industries.
- Strong understanding of Salesforce (or similar CRM).
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Communication: Clear, persuasive, confident in presentations; strong written communication skills.
- Business Acumen: Understands profitability, competitive landscape, and strategic selling.
- Planning & Organization: Able to set priorities, manage resources, and execute on sales plans.
- Problem-Solving: Effective at identifying issues, developing solutions, and supporting collaborative problem-solving.
- Independence & Teamwork: Comfortable working independently while maintaining close alignment with peers and leadership.
- Daily travel within the assigned territory using a personal vehicle (monthly car allowance provided).
- Limited overnight travel for events, tradeshows, and company meetings throughout the year.
