The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- University degree or a professional qualification in accounting and finance.
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting and finance with 2 years of senior level experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in construction environment.
- Attention to detail and analysis skills.
- Advanced Excel skills with data management in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong problem solving, communication and negotiation skills
- Experience in advanced features of QuickBooks Online.
- Experience in ADP system for payroll is an added advantage
- Full cycle accounting experience
- Excellent collaboration, verbal, and written communication skills
- Highly organized with an eye for detail and accuracy
- Able to break down problems into meaningful parts and come to rational and well-thought-out conclusion
- Reliable work ethic with a pleasant attitude
- Internally motivated to seek out answers, generate ideas, and develop new skills
- CPA accounting designation as asset
The responsibilities for the Construction Accountant include the following:
- Ensuring accuracy and completeness of accounting records.
- Overseeing the accounts payable function.
- Preparing and sending the monthly billing to the clients.
- Managing human resources and payroll functions including bi-weekly payroll, onboarding new employees, processing terminations as per the regulations and managing employee benefits.
- Managing finance and administrative processes of the construction management software.
- Presenting monthly cash flow forecast and operational results to the senior management.
- Preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly and annual tax and regulatory returns at both provincial and federal levels.
- Overseeing the monthly project budget preparation process.
- Producing ad-hoc reports required by the project managers and senior management.
- Managing procurement for the office.
- Liaising with the external accountant for review engagement and annual income tax filing.
- Coordinating IT needs and communicating with the external IT service provider.
