Responsibilities The City of North Vancouver Planning, Development & Real Estate Department is looking for a regular full-time Plumbing & Gas Inspector to join their team. In this position, your primary focus will be to conduct plan reviews and inspections within your authorized scope (including plumbing, gas, fire sprinkler, and hydronic heating systems) to ensure compliance with applicable codes, acts, bylaws, regulations, and standards before construction begins. While you will perform site inspections to verify that field installations align with approved designs on occasion, the core of your responsibility involves providing technical expertise to developers, design professionals, and contractors, identifying required plan revisions, and authorizing permit issuance
Requirements You will possess a Journeyman Plumber – Certificate of Trades Qualification (TQ), Gas Fitter “B” Certification and a Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Additionally, you will be a BOABC Level II Plumbing Official Qualified or enrolled in the Building Official-in-Training Program (BOIT) and on target to be Level II “Qualified” within a required timeline. A working knowledge of cross connection control is preferred. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of inspection, regulatory, and enforcement work related to plumbing, sprinkler, sewer, and gas-fitting; a working knowledge of the B.C. Building and Plumbing Code, as well as NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D standards. You will have effective communication, writing and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) and data entry for purposes of using the City’s wireless electronic inspection system is essential. Candidates with experience in inspection and enforcement work, ideally in a municipal setting, are preferred You will be required to provide your own transportation in return for reimbursement according to the Vehicle Policy
Compensation $46.07 – $54.44 per hour + benefits (Pay Grade 26 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every 3-week scheduling cycle
