Management Supervisor, River Valley Parks and Facilities at City of Edmonton
We are seeking a dynamic, strategic leader as Management Supervisor for River Valley Parks and Facilities. This high-impact, highly visible position is responsible for the strategic operational oversight of the River Valley parks system and the management of visitor experiences across the system. You will directly manage a substantial portfolio that spans 23 River Valley parks and includes signature facilities like the 100 Street Funicular, Yorath House and Northeast Park Event Centre. Your work includes the delivery of diverse visitor experiences including winter activities (skating, cross country skiing, tobogganing), support to over 250 festivals, 1500 annual picnic bookings and many partner delivered services. Central to this role is implementing a visitor experience framework that aligns service delivery with the Ribbon of Green plan. What will you do?
- Provide operational and technical oversight for all River Valley parks, facilities, and auxiliary assets, including ensuring they are safe and accessible
- Determine unit structure, recruit, hire, and train a suitable workforce of up to 50 employees, and oversee performance management including coaching, discipline, and developing learning plans
- Accomplish strategic oversight by analyzing and modifying policies, supporting business planning, establishing long-range financial and operational plans, and aligning with Branch/Department goals
- Provide oversight for the expense and revenue budgets, including responding to variances, pursuing operational excellence in an efficient and effective manner and providing accurate reporting and analysis
- Contribute to and support capital development requirements for facilities and parks, including identifying 10-year capital priorities and developing business cases for future development
- Coordinate, facilitate, and sustain excellent inter-departmental relationships and openly communicate to ensure effective service delivery across the River Valley system
- Manage City relationships with partner groups, vendors, and community organizations, including negotiating lease, license, and maintenance agreements
- Provide leadership and ensure full compliance with safety legislation and the Corporate Safety Program, including safety inspections, incident reporting, and emergency preparedness
- Ensure conformance to the Enviso (environmental management program) requirements, including adherence to compliance obligations and driving continual improvement initiatives
- Ensure all facilities and site operations adhere to City processes and regulations, including permitting and bylaw compliance
- Establish clear performance expectations and roles, and lead formal conversations with direct reports to support goal setting, achievement, and celebrating accomplishments
- Contribute to and develop Council Reports and respond to citizen and council inquiries related to facilities and park operations
- Education in Parks Management, Environmental Science, Recreation Administration, Business, Arts, Horticulture or other related discipline
- Minimum 5 years supervisory/management experience in recreation, park management, facility management or other related discipline within a large complex organization
Skills required for success:
- Operational and Financial Acumen: Knowledge of park and facility management/operations, coupled with strategic planning and financial management skills
- Team and Conflict Management: Expertise in human resource management, labour relations, and effective conflict resolution
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with various partners and the public
- Execution and Problem-Solving: Proven ability in problem-solving, coupled with effective time management to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Conditions of employment & work environment:
- Up to: 1 permanent full-time position
- Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
- Salary: $108,838.64 - $136,047.24 (Annually)
- This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent)
- Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance
