Open Pit Field Duties:
- Follow grade control and sampling QA/QC procedures
- Support short-term field planning, including cost tracking
- Help plan and execute projects with proper resource use
- Collect geological samples and review compliance
- Address sample quality issues with the Drill & Blast Supervisor
- Train new drillers on sampling practices
- Manage and retrieve sample tags for drill patterns
- Guide shovel operators to optimize ore recovery and minimize dilution
- Install/recover Blast Movement Monitors (BMMs)
- Use GPS to lay out field packets
- Sample stockpiles, mines, and process rejects as needed
- Always maintain a safety-first approach and report issues
- Diploma or degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, or a related field
- Previous experience in open-pit mining, field sampling, or grade control
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedures in production and exploration sampling
- Familiarity with geological data collection and interpretation
- Experience using GPS equipment and working with Blast Movement Monitors (BMMs) is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to train or support team members
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and physical conditions
- Highly safety-conscious with a solid understanding of field safety practices
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow procedures accurately
- Ability to collaborate with supervisors, drillers, and equipment operators
