The aim of the Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “ The Healing House” is to improve access to primary health care services and traditional wellness services for First Nations people in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home.

Title: Social Worker

Salary: $70,933 - $85,350 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract: This is a term position with the FNHA, ending 3/31/2028 with the possibility of an extension. When the term position ends with the FNHA, it is intended that this position will be offered as a permanent role with the Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “ The Healing House”

Hours: Standard hours - (37.5 Hours per Week)

Location: Hazelton, BC

Bargaining Unit: PIPSC BCFNHA Group (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada)

About The Role

The - Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “ The Healing House” Primary Care Centre is envisioned to work as part of a strategic integrated system within a culturally safe model that integrates family, and community supports consistent with a no barriers to care model. The centre is enriched with the traditions and culture of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en communities in a warm and welcoming space, working in harmony with existing health services and with no barriers to care.

The Social Worker practices from an Indigenous worldview that recognizes and respects the values, beliefs and customs of individuals, families and communities as well as adhering to best practices current to the field. This position focuses on the development and coordination of community-based services as requested by the community and the partners engaged.

The position also provides consultation to Nation-based leadership, Health Leads, and partners regarding information and referral to external resources, navigation of relevant systems and partners as well as implementation of relevant internal resources.

About You

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, plus 5 to 7 years of recent experience in health care setting
  • Advanced training in threat/risk assessment and/or trauma response
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work is an asset

Occupational Certification

  • Current registration with BC College of Social Worker as a Registered Social Worker (RSW)
  • Current valid B.C. driver’s license and willing to submit a drivers abstract

Experience

5 to 7 years of recent, related experience in health care setting

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of various meeting and coordination modalities
  • Knowledge of assessment and screening tools and modalities in determining suicide and violence risk and threat
  • Knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to First Nations in Canada
  • Knowledge of the importance of critical reflection in practice
  • Familiarity with traditional healing practices, customs, values and traditions of local First Nations

The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours.

Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.

The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level. Internal employee compensation will be determined as per the FNHA Employee Total Compensation Policy.
