Job Summary
The 3rd Class Power Engineer is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining large industrial textile processing equipment, as well as facility maintenance. Tasks include start-up and shut-down procedures, electrical troubleshooting, maintaining and operating boilers, welding and cutting, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, and other systems. This position reports to the Chief Engineer.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
The 3rd Class Power Engineer is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining large industrial textile processing equipment, as well as facility maintenance. Tasks include start-up and shut-down procedures, electrical troubleshooting, maintaining and operating boilers, welding and cutting, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, and other systems. This position reports to the Chief Engineer.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on industrial laundry and processing equipment, including washers, dryers, conveyors, steam tunnels, and pressing machinery.
- Install, maintain, and repair water systems, pressure piping, and wastewater systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company procedures.
- Respond quickly to equipment failures or maintenance requests to minimize production downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on all plant systems—mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic—to extend equipment lifespan and prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using hand tools, testing instruments, and electrical schematics; replace parts and perform necessary adjustments.
- Operate and maintain HVAC systems, hot water boilers, and steam equipment in accordance with ABSA or local codes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams to ensure proper installation and repair of machinery.
- Use machine shop tools and power equipment (e.g., drills, welders, saws, milling machines) safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with plant staff and supervisors in a professional manner, including assisting contractors during major system repairs or upgrades.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance tasks, inspections, repairs, and parts usage.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for improving maintenance efficiency and equipment reliability.
- Comply strictly with company safety rules, PPE requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Stay current on industry practices by attending training sessions, workshops, and reviewing technical literature.
- Perform other duties as assigned, supporting smooth day-to-day operations across all departments.
- 3rd Class Power Engineer ticket.
- Standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, kneeling, working in confined areas, reaching overhead, driving a forklift, grasping, moving equipment, pushing, pulling, moving loaded carts weighing up to 500 lbs, lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs, reading, writing, speaking, hearing.
- Inside and outside areas of a typical industrial laundry facility, which includes working with and around large machinery, variations in temperature, noise, odors, humidity, lint and dust, in general offices or on outside grounds.
- Occasionally, such as to procure parts.
- $70,000 to $90,000 per year based on experience and qualifications.
