What the role is about:

The Catering & Events Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, leadership, and operational execution of all internal and external food and beverage events at WinSport. This role supports the Director, Food & Beverage by ensuring that event operations—both onsite and offsite—are delivered efficiently, professionally, and in alignment with WinSport’s service standards, brand, and financial objectives.

Operating within a high-volume, multi-use sport and event environment, this role oversees a diverse portfolio of events including meetings, weddings, exhibitions, concessions, sporting events, live entertainment, and external catering. The position also provides operational support to Food & Beverage outlets as required.

The Food & Beverage Event Operations Manager exercises day-to-day operational decision-making authority within the Event Operations function and escalates strategic, financial, or risk-related decisions to the Director, Food & Beverage. Through strong leadership, financial stewardship, and cross-functional collaboration, this role contributes to exceptional guest experiences, engaged team members, and sustainable business results.

What You Will Be Doing

Operational Leadership & Event Execution

  • Direct and oversee all internal and external food and beverage event operations, ensuring events are executed to established service, quality, and safety standards.
  • Provide operational leadership across cross-functional teams to ensure seamless event planning, delivery, and post-event follow-up.
  • Ensure all events are appropriately scheduled, set up, serviced, and dismantled in accordance with operational plans and guest experience expectations.
  • Maintain strong involvement in day-to-day operations to ensure departmental objectives and service commitments are consistently achieved.
  • Collaborate with Sales Associates and Event Coordinators to ensure event schedules, specifications, and requirements are accurate and up to date.
  • Review event documentation and ensure information is forwarded for accurate and timely invoicing.

Financial Management & Business Planning

  • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget for Food & Beverage Event Operations.
  • Track financial performance and implement corrective actions to ensure budgetary commitments are met or exceeded.
  • Work closely with internal partners to maximize the profit contribution of event operations to the organization.
  • Manage inventory, cost controls, and food and beverage wastage to support financial sustainability.
  • Oversee ordering and management of alcohol inventory, including the development and maintenance of liquor, wine, and beer menus.

People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and develop team members within Food & Beverage Event Operations.
  • Provide direct leadership to Team Leads and event operations staff, supporting performance, accountability, and engagement.
  • Develop staff schedules and oversee payroll processing to ensure effective coverage and labour control.
  • Coach, mentor, and support Team Leads to enhance leadership capability, creativity, and operational effectiveness.
  • Foster a positive, service-oriented team culture that promotes collaboration, retention, and repeat business.

Guest Experience & Brand Alignment

  • Champion exceptional customer service standards that drive guest satisfaction, loyalty, and repeat business.
  • Monitor guest feedback and service metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure all event services align with WinSport’s brand, values, and service expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, partners, and external customers to support high-quality event delivery.

Policy, Compliance & Safety

  • Develop, maintain, and review departmental operational policies and procedures to support consistency, safety, and compliance.
  • Promote a safe and respectful work environment by adhering to WinSport safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify, address, and report safety hazards or concerns within the work environment.
  • Review Occupational Health & Safety notices and meeting minutes as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, liquor service, workplace safety, and employment standards.

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

  • Identify and implement improvements to event operations processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational priorities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Use operational data, financial results, and feedback to inform decision-making and service enhancements.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Food & Beverage operations as WinSport continues to grow and adapt.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in Food & Beverage, Hospitality Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in food and beverage, hospitality, exhibitions, or non-profit environments.
  • Three (3) or more years’ proven experience leading, coaching, and developing teams in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Strong operational and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, inventory, and cost controls.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to service excellence.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across departments and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and sound judgment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
  • Strong working knowledge of food, wine, liquor, and beer service.
  • ProServe certification.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Experience with food and beverage point-of-sale systems.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Working Conditions

Work Environment

  • Primarily based in food and beverage and event operations environments within a multi-use sport and event facility.
  • Regular interaction with team members, guests, suppliers, and internal partners.
  • Exposure to fast-paced, high-volume event settings and time-sensitive operational demands.

Work Hours

  • Full-time position, generally averaging 40 hours per week.
  • Requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours to support events and operational requirements.

Physical Demands

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods during events.
  • Occasional lifting and movement of event materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to work in kitchens, event spaces, outdoor venues, and varied environmental conditions.
