Intermediate Technician, Data Reception Operations at MDA Space

MDA Space is a leader in the provision of earth observation systems and services, catering to both the Canadian and international markets. MDA Space is currently a seeking one full-time staff member to join the team operating a satellite ground station near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The successful applicant would be required to monitor ground station operations and provide first line maintenance support in a 24/7 operation.

MDA Space is seeking qualified personnel with skills in the following categories:

Responsibilities/tasks

• Perform scheduling and tasking of reception activities to maintain system readiness for data reception.
• Monitor data reception activities from scheduling and reception to final data transfer to archive.
• Detect and report any operational and technical problems.
• Apply troubleshooting procedures.
• Assist in maintaining accurate logs of system activities and reports.
• Support the Senior Technician in system and equipment maintenance, Level 1 preventative maintenance and repairs, and maintenance logs. This includes climbing a ladder up to 15 metres and installing rack-mounted systems equipment (up to 30 kg).
• Shift work is required.
• Available on call 24/7 in rotation with other Intermediate Technicians.
  
  

Qualifications Include

• 1-3 years of experience required in operation of monitoring and server environments.
• Good computer skills, for example with system upgrades, configuration changes, installations, working with cables in confined spaces, etc.
• Experience system maintenance.
• Experience in system hardware/software preventative maintenance and repairs. The ability to climb 15 metre ladders and perform rack-mounting of systems equipment (up to 30 kg) is required.
• Experience in data reception, utilizing RF antenna subsystems.
• Cleanliness and attention to hygiene appropriate for working in shared building space with federal and provincial government agencies.
  
  

Special Considerations / Comments

• Candidate must hold or be cleared to Reliability Security Clearance prior to commencing work.
• Candidate must also hold or be eligible to obtain Level II Security Clearance.
