MAKING AN IMPACT

The research assistant will work with the Health Policy team at the Canadian Cancer Society. The Health Policy team is skilled in interpreting cancer-related health and scientific research. The team maintains up-to-date knowledge about research evidence and provides content expertise and support for various departments and regional offices.

In their role, the research assistant will synthesize the results of scientific and health policy research on cancer control issues into issue briefs for specific topics.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Synthesize scientific research:
  • Compile and review health policy research on cancer-related issues
  • Analyze and synthesize the results of scientific and health policy research to create plain language supporting resources
  • Ensures references and other documentation is complete, current and stored appropriately
  • Ensure CCS materials are accurate:
  • Review Canadian Cancer Society cancer information material for accuracy and consistency
  • Review emerging cancer control issues on tight timelines
  • Provide assistance on expert consultations as needed
  • Support CCS teams:
  • Connect with colleagues across the country on cancer-related issues
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • More than 1 year, up to and including 3 years in a similar role.
  • Bachelors (completed) or master’s degree (completed or in progress) in science, health science, health, public health, epidemiology or recognized equivalent
  • Attention to detail with excellent organization and time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated, creative, self-starter
  • Excellent communications skills and experience presenting materials through verbal, written, and graphical techniques
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, ability to multi-task, follow up and manage competing demands
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is highly preferred, with French being an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations and the need for effective communication across various regions.
