In this challenging and exciting role, you will be a part of the Heritage Programs team at Fort Edmonton Park. Our team works collaboratively to provide both authentic and unique experiences to our guests. You’ll use your skills to help develop, supervise and lead a team of Historical Interpreters delivering historical programming which gives a voice to people and stories from the past and brings Edmonton’s rich history to life. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.

What will you do?

  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Historical Interpretation staff and volunteers
  • Lead and facilitate the development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of historical interpretive programs and special event activities for your assigned area
  • Complete administrative tasks related to the interpretation program, including submitting timesheets, writing program reports, collecting statistical information and ordering/maintaining program supplies
  • Lead and assist with regular staff meetings for assigned program area during the public operating season
  • Provide assistance and direction to staff, volunteers and visitors while acting as on-site supervisor, including responding to visitor inquiries and first aid emergencies
  • Coordinate and implement special/outreach projects and events, including set up, oversight and interpretive programming
  • Other related duties as required


Qualifications:

  • Completion of the first year of a recognized Recreation Administration or related diploma or degree program with an emphasis on Education, History, Museum Studies or a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience delivering related historical interpretation, recreational, cultural or educational programs
  • Previous supervisory experience including direct experience supervising staff in a recreational or educational setting is preferred


Skills required for success:

  • Experience working independently as well as with a team of internal staff and volunteers
  • Experience planning, developing and organizing special event activities
  • Demonstrated ability or knowledge in education, history, drama or a related field
  • Ability to instruct, organize and supervise group activities
  • Knowledge of Western Canadian history
  • Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication abilities and interpersonal skills

Conditions of employment:

  • Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Certificates are required prior to employment
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Successful candidates must be willing to sign a media consent form in accordance with City policy and participate in media events
  • Applicants may be tested


Work Environment:

  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Ability to work outdoors under various weather and environmental conditions

Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2027 season

Up to 3 temporary positions for up to 6 months, with the potential to be extended up to 11 months

Hours of Work: Up to 39 hours per week. Weekends and some evening work is required.

Salary: $22.508 - $27.813 (Hourly)
