The Niagara Peninsula Children's Centre School Authority invites applications for the position of Permanent Part-Time Custodian.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous custodial or institutional cleaning experience, particularly in a school, healthcare, or child-focused environment, is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in settings that support children or individuals with physical and/or communication needs is also considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow established cleaning and safety procedures, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
  • The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is required to perform the duties of the position safely and effectively
  • A valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required, dated within the last 6 months.
  • Ability to lift up to 20–25 kg, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate standard custodial equipment (e.g., vacuum, floor cleaners).
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with active student programming.
Job Description:

The custodian, under the direction of the School Authority Principal, will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Specific duties include:

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, gym area, and common spaces.
  • Clean and disinfect washrooms and replenish soap, towels, and supplies.
  • Clean and disinfect furniture, equipment, window sills, doors, walls, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Empty, sanitize, and properly dispose of waste, recycling, and compost.
  • Perform spot cleaning to address spills and urgent sanitation needs.
  • Follow specialized cleaning protocols in student care areas.
  • Ensure doors and windows are secured as required.
  • Maintain safe, clutter-free hallways and learning environments.
  • Identify and report safety concerns or maintenance needs to the administration.
  • Assist with preparing classrooms for daily programming.
  • Support the setup and takedown of spaces for meetings and school activities.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and notify administration when inventory is low.
  • Perform light groundskeeping duties, including litter pickup and clearing walkways of debris as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the school team and maintain confidentiality.
  • Implement infection control measures to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Authority Principal related to the care, comfort, and safety of students.
Compensation:

Compensation is based on an hourly rate of $25.20.

Hours of Work:

17.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE), scheduled during the 10-month school year. Schedule to be determined based on school operational needs. Day shift, Monday to Friday only.
