Position Summary
Reporting to the Parks Coordinator, the Parks Labourer is a seasonal outdoor position responsible for the maintenance and improvement of Yellowhead County owned and operated property, public parks, campgrounds, and recreational areas. This role involves a variety of tasks to ensure these spaces are clean, safe, and enjoyable for all visitors. Responsibilities include but are not limited to general maintenance and cleaning, equipment operation, and other tasks as directed by the Parks Coordinator.Position Responsibilities
Maintenance/Cleaning- Grass cutting, line trimming, pruning, brush clean up, and weeding of varied County spaces using powered mobile and handheld equipment.
- Manual labour tasks, including but not limited to litter picking, garbage collection and disposal, landscaping, trail clearing, sign installation, painting of picnic tables, and removal of graffiti.
- Assist with construction projects including painting, landscaping, and the installation of park signage, benches, and tables.
Equipment Operation
- Safe operation of County vehicles and equipment such as 1-ton vehicles, towing loaded trailers, commercial mowers, and other small landscape-related equipment.
- Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, equipment and tools as used in the work tasks.
- Completion of work site and vehicle safety hazard inspections.
Other
- Provide general information to the public and assist with their questions, concerns, or complaints as needed.
- Provide event support including assisting in setup, operation, and teardown of special events and functions.
- Lift and place facility equipment as needed.
- Responsible for submitting invoices, time sheets and inspection reports.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Qualification, Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
Education/Experience- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with basic home and yard maintenance is considered an asset, landscaping and turf maintenance preferred.
- Experience in operating small and heavy equipment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication skills required.
- Customer service skills considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time.
- Ability to traverse challenging terrain in various weather conditions.
- Possesses a demonstrated regard for health and safety of both self and others.
- Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver’s License.
- Driver’s abstract with fewer than 6 demerits.
- Completion of Defensive Driving within the last 5 years.
Working Environment
- Work duties are conducted outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work is frequently conducted in remote/isolated environments.
- Potential interaction with domestic and/or wild animals.
- Physical exertion and extensive walking required.
- Public contact may be confrontational.
- Frequent and/or daily driving required.
- Hours are typically weekdays; weekends and holidays may be required to accommodate weather, maintenance tasks, and/or public events.
- Overtime and/or on-call shifts may be required.
The hourly wage is $23.96 to $26.08. This is a seasonal position. Position dates are approximately May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.
This position is based out of Edson with travel throughout Yellowhead County as required.
IMPORTANT NOTE:Applicants must include a cover letter, resume, 2 written references and driver's abstract to be considered for an interview. Defensive Driving completion is required (5 year validity).
