Position Summary
Reporting to the Canada Games Centre General Manager, the Manager, Facility Maintenance & Operations is a member of the Canada Games Centre Senior Management Team and is responsible for managing the physical building operations. Core responsibilities include the management of general maintenance, cleaning services, energy management systems, security, and capital projects.

The Manager, Facility Maintenance & Operations must achieve outcomes in key result areas including the safety and cleanliness of the facility, effective operation of the building and equipment, fiscal responsibility, employee performance, effective contract administration and positive customer relations related to the building operation. The Manager, Facility Maintenance & Operations will facilitate success through a cooperative approach with the Society and quality leadership and communication to employees and contractors.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Manage the physical operation of the Canada Games Centre

  • Develop and monitor goals and objectives for the Facility Maintenance & Operations Business Unit.
  • Ensure the facility and equipment items are safe and maintained in a clean functional state by making regular checks of the building noting that cleanliness meets building standards, maintenance is performed as required, equipment is operating properly, assets are secure, and that plant and facility annual maintenance shut down for all areas minimizes impact on users.
  • Responsible for all cleaning and housekeeping services.
  • Responsible for the daily review and maintenance of quality performance standards in all areas of the facility.
  • Analyze stats on member usage, concerns, and suggestions through surveys to determine operational demands and solutions.
  • Respond to emergency calls (on 24 hour basis) for intrusion and fire, and communicate with police, fire and security services.
  • Responsible for security monitoring and personnel, and the control and distribution of all keys for the Centre and the maintenance of accurate records in this regard.
  • Compile, monitor and perform daily checks to ensure all utilities are operating as efficiently as possible and maintain records on energy consumed.
  • Arrange all maintenance service and service contracts and liaise with building inspectors to ensure all regulations and standards are met or exceeded.
  • Stay current on new products and standards.
  • Oversee HVAC and mechanical systems, continually seeking new programs and procedures, equipment and controls to improve efficiencies and reduction in energy consumption/peak demand usage.
  • Oversee policies and procedures regarding risk management for the facility in relation to hazards, i.e. environmental and safety issues, and ensure concerns are handled appropriately.
  • Oversee and administer project management for any construction activities to ensure building standards, codes, and other Government regulations are met.
  • Manage the life cycle plan for the facility and equipment.

Manage a team of employees

  • Provide leadership to the Facility Maintenance & Operations team.
  • Recruit and hire employees as needed, ensuring due diligence with respect to applicable legislation, etc.
  • Provide orientation, training and professional development to maximize employee performance.
  • Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of a safe, respectful and positive working environment, ensuring due diligence with respect to applicable legislation.
  • Motivate, empower, and coach staff to optimum performance.
  • Conduct staff performance appraisals.
  • Recognize the contributions of staff.
  • Mediate conflicts between staff and clients while maintaining a positive and constructive working relationship.
  • Monitor and hold staff accountable for their behaviour and performance.

Manage fiscal and other resources

  • Prepare the Facility Maintenance & Operations Business Unit’s annual budget and monitor expenditures, reporting monthly on business unit revenues and expenses, for daily operations and project management.
  • Responsible for the purchase of building operational parts, supplies, and equipment, as well as keeping accurate up to date inventory lists.
  • Supervise the operation and activities for the department including, but not limited to, scheduling, budgets and operations maintenance programs.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff regarding operational policies and procedures.
  • Review and monitor operational status reports.
  • Monitor service through performance measures to ensure maximum efficiencies.
  • Assist with special events, in conjunction with other departments.

Education & Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of seven years progressive experience in facility maintenance services and operations in supervisory position(s).
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing employees.
  • Must be a Certified Engineering Technician (C.E.T), plus have Business Management training, or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Must have demonstrated budget management skills (both operating and capital) and experience in planning.
  • Must have experience in project management and capital renovations.
  • Must have working knowledge of computerized Building Automation Systems/Energy Management Systems & LEED.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of building operational systems and services and current industry trends.
  • Must have experience in facility cleaning & safety.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of various mechanical, electrical, pool, and HVAC systems.
  • Must have working knowledge of a variety of computer software programs.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent interactions with staff/members/guests. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) predominantly Monday-Friday. Flexible hours (day, evening and weekends) may be required, as well as the potential to be on call when necessary due to facility communication needs, operations and demands.
  • Psychological Demands: High stress environment due to multi-task requirement and customer expectations

Compensation
Salary will be based on a range from $70,000–$85,000, commensurate with education and level of experience.
