This exciting international teaching provides an opportunity to gain experience in teaching a specialized course in English to Chinese students in the Landscape Architecture program. The FAFU International College is a relatively new collaboration between Dalhousie University and the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University which presently delivers programs in Landscape Architecture and Agricultural Economics.
The instructor will be an employee of Dalhousie University and will be provided orientation and training before leaving for China. Other Dalhousie instructors are likely to be present at FAFU at the same time. This position reports to the Chair of the Department, however, the instructor will also be supported by a Canadian Program Coordinator and the Associate Dean FAFU International College. Accommodation and a meal allowance will be provided by FAFU, and Dalhousie will provide transportation between Halifax NS and Fuzhou, China.
LARC1010 Studio 1: Introduction to Design is the first studio course offered to the Landscape Architecture students. It will support development of design skills through observation, study, and practice. The Part-Time Academic position will teach in-person Lectures and Labs in English. The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of preparing, teaching and administering the lectures and labs, including test preparation, evaluation and learning management system operation. As student enrollment is expected to exceed 100 students, the course is expected to be split into two sections. For each section, a total of 48 hours of lecture/studio contact time with students is expected in addition to course and final exam preparation, delivery and grading. Travel to China will occur in early March and return in late-June 2026.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position At least one year of experience teaching in a post-secondary educational institution. Excellent oral and written communication in English are required, as well as a high level of collegiality, organizational and interpersonal skill, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. A Master’s degree or PhD in landscape architecture or closely related field with a strong theoretical knowledge and practical landscape architectural design ability is required.
The incumbent will be required to obtain a Chinese Visa, with Dalhousie’s assistance. A valid passport that permits entry into China is required. Although delivery of the courses is in English, the ability to speak Chinese is an asset
Salary Range/Pay Rate $16,520
