Position Overview The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks department (Operations) is looking for a temporary full-time Trades 2 – Gardener to join their team from approximately March – November 2026
Responsibilities You will perform gardening and nursery tasks relating to the maintenance of plants, shrubs, lawns, and flowers. This will include designing floral displays, maintaining perennial gardens, preparing and maintaining flower beds, grass maintenance, rain gardens, natural planting and naturescapes. In this leadership role you will also assign, check and supervise the work of others engaged in planting, pruning, weeding, general park maintenance, and clean-up, ensuring performance standards/specifications and safety procedures are met. Excellent interpersonal skills are required in this supervisory position and your responsibilities will include interaction with the public
Requirements You are known for your leadership, communication and supervisory skills, along with a demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures and processes. You must have a Journeyman Trade Qualification in Horticulture, and a current Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate. A thorough knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in parks, landscape, and greenhouse operations is necessary. Preference will be given to applicants with related experience with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Infor Public Sector. A demonstrated knowledge of arboriculture and greenhouse maintenance would be an added benefit. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is also required
Compensation $45.29 per hour (January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
