Scope of the Role:
The Director of Care reports to the Executive Director and provides leadership to the resident care team in all aspects of resident care within established legislative and professional standards. The role effectively oversees staffing, operational resources, and financial requirements, and works collaboratively with the resident care team to develop resident-focused programs, policies, and procedures. It also monitors the quality of care and services through ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
Wage Rate:
The starting annual salary is $110,000.

Responsibilities:
- Leads the nursing team, ensuring delivery of person-centred care.
- Manages all HR functions for the Nursing Department.
- Maintains full compliance with applicable legislation (FLTCA 2021, O. Reg. 246/22, OHSA, ESA, LRA, etc.).
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of the Resident Bill of Rights and ensures rights are upheld.
- Develops and maintains nursing policies and procedures aligned with best practices, CNO standards, and legislation.
- Manages departmental budgeting, staffing, purchasing, and resource allocation.
- Reviews quality improvement data and leads practice changes, new policies, programs, and services.
- Provides overall leadership for all nursing department operations.
- Is accountable and responsible for all nursing services delivered.
- Communicates effectively with staff, residents, families, interdisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the CNO or an RN registered in another Canadian jurisdiction with equivalent independent practice rights under Bill 60.
- Minimum 1 year RN experience in long-term care.
- Minimum 3 years RN managerial/supervisory experience in a health care setting, with a positive mindset aligned to organizational values.
- OR previously held a Director of Nursing role in another LTCH without meeting updated qualifications, with 3 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in the past 5–7 years.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices, long-term care concepts, philosophies, and legislation.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Skilled in policy/program development; knowledgeable of RAI-MDS (AIS certification required within 1 year if not held).
- Demonstrated ability to provide person-centred care and uphold the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
- Ability to follow clinical infection control protocols and respond effectively to responsive behaviours.
- Basic computer skills; commitment to learning, continuous improvement, and emotionally attuned interactions that support positive social engagement.
- Able to meet all legal requirements while promoting resident rights and reducing risk.
Compliance & Health Requirements:
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) completed within the past six months, or willingness to obtain one.
- TB test results dated within the last six months, or within 14 days of hire; alternatively, a chest X-ray completed within the last year, in accordance with Public Health guidelines.
- Proof of all required vaccinations must be provided. Staying "up to date" with recommended vaccines is strongly encouraged. Requirements are subject to change based on Employer directives
