Job Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for the set-up, calibration, and operation of machines used in composite production processes. Work from verbal or written instructions, diagrams, or models. Verify processing operations and finished product against specified tolerances using precision measuring tools. Determine and correct more complex machine malfunctions. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning.

Job Title: Composite Technician
Job Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for the set-up, calibration, and operation of machines used in composite production processes. Work from verbal or written instructions, diagrams, or models. Verify processing operations and finished product against specified tolerances using precision measuring tools. Determine and correct more complex machine malfunctions. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
Responsibility
- Set-up and troubleshoot machines in a safe and productive manner.
- Analyze “out of tolerance” conditions and make adjustments .
- Work to continuously improve all areas of productivity and reduce scrap.
- Provide direct supervision to operators in the absence of the supervisor.
- Train and assist operators with troubleshooting as needed and work in a team environment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications .
- Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
- Two to four years of Carbon Fibre or Fibreglass manufacturing experience.
- Have good knowledge of fibre directions, orientation and alignment .
- Able to read, interpret and react to quality inspection reports and adjust equipment accordingly.
- Have working knowledge of composite manufacturing processes such as RTM, resin infusion, hand layup and vacuum consolidation with epoxy, polyester and vinyl esters resin systems.
- Efficiently use calibrated equipment and machinery as part of assembly processes and component manufacturing.
- Interact with supervisors to take direction on job assignments, to seek clarification on unclear drawings or job instructions and to seek help when problems arise. Interact with co-workers, including mechanics, welders and machinists, to exchange tips about methods and procedures, to relay new information and safety precautions, to receive instructions or to instruct others how to perform new jobs.
- Decide when to stop a process and adjust – must have ability to troubleshoot typical failure modes in the process and equipment.
- Ability to work independently. When needed, be a part of a team which includes mechanics, welders, machinists, fellow operators and management to co-ordinate efforts to ensure that machines are used efficiently and work priorities are well managed .
- Ability to learn new specifications and procedures through on-the-job training and experience. Receive training in first aid and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
- Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms to various levels within the organization.
