Scope
The City of Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture Department aims to build healthy communities where all people are active and engaged for life. As part of that commitment, we are looking for an auxiliary Head Cook (Head Concession Worker) who can provide excellent customer service, healthy food services to the community and lead a great team of staff and volunteers.
We're looking for a flexible, enthusiastic team player to join our kitchen team, operating out of the Cloverdale Recreation Centre.
This is an auxiliary position with primarily daytime shifts, and the occasional evening or weekend shift.
Responsibilities
Assigns, directs, trains and supervises the work of kitchen staff (concession workers).
Schedule and oversee volunteers.
Planning, preparing and selling a variety of food and beverage items in the kitchen/lounge.
Accurate cash handling, cash register operation and balances cash floats.
Orders and maintains food inventory.
Dish washing, floor mopping and general cleaning of the kitchen and lounge area.
Ability to plan and cook for large groups of people (up to 150 people).
Performs job related duties at luncheons and special events.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
Completed grade 10 or equivalent.
Minimum of 6 months experience as a Concession worker or equivalent.
Food Safe certificate.
Basic First Aid.
Acceptable equivalent of training and experience may be considered.
You will need to demonstrate:
Strong leadership and staff training skills.
Strong people skills with a focus on service excellence.
Proficient in accurate cash handling procedures.
Good knowledge of food preparation equipment and proper cleaning methods.
Working knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
Other Information
Pay Grade: Schedule D
Hourly Rate: $32.04 (2024 rate)
Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
