Position
The pharmacist is responsible to work in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy in providing oversight of Pharmacy operations including: professional supervision of the Pharmacy facilities, equipment, supplies and drug information, record keeping and documentation, drug procurement and inventory management, training and orientation, safe medication practices in accordance with professional and Ongwanada policies and procedures.

Position
The pharmacist is responsible to work in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy in providing oversight of Pharmacy operations including: professional supervision of the Pharmacy facilities, equipment, supplies and drug information, record keeping and documentation, drug procurement and inventory management, training and orientation, safe medication practices in accordance with professional and Ongwanada policies and procedures.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Filling and checking requisitions, prescriptions after ensuring they meet all legal requirements, accuracy and completeness of the demographic and prescription data and contacting prescribers and documenting such as soon as possible (i.e., alternative drug reimbursed by ODB, client has suspected drug allergy and/or adverse reactions, etc.)
- Approving all routine purchase orders and requisitions, ensuring there is adequate inventory control systems to detect, segregate and dispose of outdated, deteriorated, recalled, obsolete or hazardous drugs according to environmentally sound methods;
- Arranging for removal, replacement and or credit of outdated or over-stocked items;
- Following procedures for obtaining supplies of medication in an urgent situation and ensuring payment or return of product(s) is arranged;Ensuring the medication processing systems (preparation, distribution, blister packing, compliance packaging, dosettes, dispensing, returns to stock, etc.) Are by the Pharmacy are designed to minimize errors to protect the clients;
- Preparing and checking of 180-day renewals (TMR’s) for all residential clients and other clients as requested by specialists, dentists, family physicians, etc.;
- Ensuring systems are in place for implementation/maintenance of a medication incident follow-up are reporting protocol.
- Maintaining formularies, sources of information on preparations, reference texts and journals in the department in accordance with licensing authorities standards as well as striving for current information;
- Consulting with and supplying medical and other staff with scientific and unbiased drug information and rational use of drugs;
- Establishing and maintaining a system of records and bookkeeping, ensuring all cash transactions are recorded appropriately, all charges for staff prescriptions (retail vs. cost) are accurate and forwarded to the Finance Department each month;
Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge Required
- The incumbent must be licensed and in good standing as a pharmacist in the Province of Ontario (Ontario Health Disciplines Legislation) and have good organizational skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required to counsel with clients, staff and supervisors on a daily basis;
- Computer knowledge of Kroll and application skills are required;
- The pharmacist will work in conjunction with the designated manager and at times will be delegated the acting role in its authority over decisions affecting the operation of the Pharmacy and shall ensure adherence to the requirement defined by the legislation and policy governing the practice of Pharmacy as per the Drug and Pharmacies Regulations Act;
- Pharmacy experience in an agency for supported individuals with a developmental disability would be an asset.
