Journeyperson Machinist at DF Barnes Fabrication

We are currently seeking a skilled Journeyperson Machinist to join our team at DF Barnes Fabrication in Newfoundland & Labrador. This position is primarily shop-based at 45 Pepperrell Road, with deployment to field locations as required to support machining, repair, and maintenance activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of manual and portable machining equipment, producing high-quality work to precise specifications in both shop and field environments.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machines including lathes, mills, grinders, flange facers, portable mills, and boring equipment
• Perform machining, repair, and fitting work primarily in the shop environment, with occasional field deployment
• Carry out on-site flange facing, line boring, and portable milling as required
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders
• Machine parts to tight tolerances and quality standards
• Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools
• Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments as required
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Follow all safety policies and procedures, both in-shop and in the field

Qualifications

• Certified Journeyperson Machinist (Red Seal preferred)
• Minimum 3–5 years of machining experience
• Strong knowledge of manual and portable machining practices
• Experience with flange facers, portable mills, and boring equipment considered a strong asset
• Willing and able to travel to field and industrial sites as required
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
• High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team
