POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY
The Recreational Activities Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all camp-related programming, including the supervision of camp staff and volunteers within their assigned geographical region. The incumbent will attend community events to promote the organization, build and strengthen community partnerships, and support outreach initiatives. They will coordinate the timely purchase and distribution of equipment and materials required for camp operations and activities.
The incumbent is responsible for fostering a safe, caring, and positive environment for all day camp participants. Through engaging recreational and educational activities, the program encourages children to build friendships, develop new skills, and explore the Christian faith in an inclusive and supportive setting. The Northridge Community Church Day Camp is committed to delivering high-quality children’s programming that promotes personal growth, teamwork, and positive experiences for all campers.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Program Leadership
- Work collaboratively with the Recreation Manager to plan, coordinate and implement all aspects of the Northridge Community Church sports, general recreation and arts-based day camp programming.
- Develop relationships with children, using empathy and active listening to encourage happy and well-developed children and youth.
- Provide leadership of daily camp programming and assist with various camp activities including music, sports, arts & crafts.
- Role models appropriate behaviors and attitudes.
General Accountabilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned, including program set-up, camp clean-up, and general operational support.
- Ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and well-being for all campers, volunteers, and staff.
- Support the emotional wellness, personal growth, and overall development of campers in a positive and inclusive environment.
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and adhere to The Salvation Army health and safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Summer Day Camp mentoring program to provide guidance and support to Day Camp staff and campers.
- Encourage and support campers in their social, mental, and spiritual development.
- Maintain knowledge of and act in accordance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures to ensure the safety, privacy, and confidentiality of campers and information.
- Respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations in alignment with camp policies and procedures.
- Clearly communicate instructions, expectations, and directions for program activities and daily operations.
- Complete required documentation, incident reports, and records accurately and in a timely manner, including recommendations to address issues or concerns.
- Create, maintain, and organize reports and documentation required for health and safety compliance purposes.
- Support external reporting and information requests as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
- Working environment is in a day camp setting both indoor and outdoor in generally agreeable
- conditions with the following exceptions, exposure to tantrums and noise.
- Ability to lift, carry or move up to 29 lbs. without assistance from others.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long
- periods of time.
- Some flexibility in scheduling is required.
Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.
The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
- aged 19 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
- a valid Social Insurance Number;
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
Canada Summer Jobs Program requirements apply. Individuals who required employer-specific work authorization (e.g., international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Relevant post-secondary coursework or education is preferred.
- A current valid Standard First Aid + CPR & AED (Intermediate First Aid) certification, or willingness to obtain is required.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of 2-years of prior related experience working in summer camping program setting in a day camp leadership role.
- Prior experience supervising staff and volunteers.
- Having own computer with reliable internet connection for meetings that may be conducted online.
- Must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills (this includes but not limited to video editing)
Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
