Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

As Intern, Detail Design, you will support the delivery of production drawings that bring complex vessel designs to life under the National Shipbuilding Strategy. You will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and waterfront teams to track schedules, manage changes, and help ensure design work is delivered on time and within budget. In this role, you will gain hands-on exposure to project coordination in a dynamic, heavy industrial environment, support meetings, monitoring progress, identifying risks, and helping resolve issues that impact drawing delivery.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Capilano Business Park 1, North Vancouver.

What you’ll do

  • Support tracking of production drawings schedule, progress reporting, budgets, and quality.
  • Coordinate meetings, record minutes, and follow up on action items.
  • Coordinate with drawing team and Waterfront Change Team on change management.
  • Coordinate with adjacent teams and departments to ensure work is seamlessly integrated and performs properly at every stage in the design and build.
  • Help identify risks to drawing delivery dates and track issues to resolution.
  • Collaborate with multiple drawings teams worldwide to remove roadblocks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project processes

What you’ll bring

  • Enrolled in a 2nd or 3rd year Engineering degree program.
  • Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing project management concepts within a production environment.
  • Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft software suite including Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time optimally

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $28.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

End Date of Internship: Friday, April 30th, 2027 (8-Months).
