Museum Program Instructor - Introductory at Town of Newmarket

Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! We are looking for dedicated individuals who enjoy working with others with a passion to deliver high quality programs, events and services. 1. Be responsible for program delivery of general Museum programs for preschool and children.

2. Ensure attendance is taken at each class and all paperwork is handed in promptly on the last day of the session.

3. Provide a program plan to the Cultural Programmer that includes equipment and supplies required.

4. Manage their class time and preparation time, as well as arrive on time for their program, ensuring all supplies are available and that such equipment and supplies are maintained in a safe condition and ensures a proper setup of their room

prior to the commencement of each class.

5. Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants, Assistant Instructor (if applicable), volunteers and the Cultural Programmer.

6. Fill out the required paperwork that deals with Health and Safety issues, accidents, incidents or facility issues and/or escalates issues as appropriate.

1. 1+ years experience in program design, development and delivery experience in a Museum-based, recreational or school setting.

2. Minimum high school diploma or other equivalent. Museum experience, knowledge of local history and/or post secondary education in a related field an asset (e.g. Early Childhood Education, Museum Studies, Indigenous studies).

3. Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational and leadership skills.

4. Strong customer service and administrative skills.

5. Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.

6. Demonstrated time management skills with ability to prioritize demands, meet customer service standards and deadlines.

7. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.

8. Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required (Preschool-Youth) classes.

9. Valid G or G2 driver’s license and reliable transportation.

10. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.

Disclaimer: Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
