Buffalo Trail Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centred educator to join the team at Wainwright Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year. This part-time probationary teaching position includes an Elementary Generalist assignment serving students in Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Buffalo Trail Public Schools is seeking two passionate, student-centred educators to join the team at Wainwright Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year. These are exciting opportunities to work in a collaborative elementary school where strong relationships, inclusive practices, and high expectations support student success. In addition, Wainwright Elementary School will be moving into a brand-new school facility during the 2026–2027 school year, providing staff and students with a modern learning environment designed to support engagement, collaboration, and achievement.

Wainwright Elementary School is a welcoming and diverse Kindergarten to Grade 6 school where staff work together to create engaging learning experiences and support the success of every student. We are seeking educators who believe in the potential of every learner, value strong partnerships with families, and are committed to helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The successful applicants will be assigned to either a Grade 2/3 classroom or a Grade 5 classroom based on school needs and the strengths and experience they bring to the role. Applicants are encouraged to indicate any grade-level preferences and relevant experience in their cover letter.

Specific Position Details

Start Date: August 26, 2026

End Date: June 29, 2027

Location: Wainwright Elementary School – Wainwright, Alberta

Assignment: Elementary Teacher (Grade 2/3 or Grade 5)

Contract Type: Probationary, Full-Time

FTE: 1.0 (each position)

Specific Position Duties

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Training and/or experience in elementary literacy and numeracy instruction, with a focus on strong foundational learning and student success
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing differentiated instruction and responsive supports to meet the diverse academic, behavioural, social-emotional, and learning needs of students
  • The ability to create welcoming, student-centred learning environments where students feel valued, supported, and successful
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a supportive school team, including collaboration with educational assistants, student support staff, and families
  • A commitment to fostering positive relationships that promote student well-being, belonging, and success

Qualifications and General Duties

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • A student-centred philosophy committed to maximizing student learning in a safe and caring environment
  • Experience and/or training in Assessment for Learning, including formative and summative assessment practices
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace for Education and educational technology to support communication, collaboration, and student learning
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional growth and reflective practice aligned with the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard
  • A willingness to contribute to extracurricular opportunities and the broader school community would be considered an asset
