Start Date: Duties will commence on September 1, 2026 (or a mutually agreeable start date) and will conclude on June 29, 2027, or upon the return of the incumbent, whichever occurs sooner.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday (1.0 FTE)

Reports to: Director of Technology

Providing dynamic leadership within GYPSD, the Temporary, Teacher Consultant - Technology is a forward-thinking innovator and results-oriented change agent who unifies stakeholders to advance 21st-century learning. Collaborating closely with the Technology Team under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Consultant builds staff capacity, leads professional development for Ed Tech Leads, and drives the strategic implementation of the Learning Technology Policy Framework (LTPF). This modernized role balances pedagogy and digital governance by guiding the ethical integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), utilizing student data to optimize assistive and educational technologies, and ensuring strict compliance through Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) under Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) legislation. Ultimately, the Consultant serves as an instructional leader who empowers educators, manages the division's digital assets, and enhances learning outcomes for all students.

In accordance with the Director of Information Technology’s specifications and direction:

  • Work closely with the Technology Team to implement the goals and strategies of the Learning Technology Policy Framework (LTPF).
  • Promote research based educational technology strategies and assistive technologies to support the highest level of learning for all students.
  • Facilitate Division-wide leadership and professional development for Ed Tech Leads in regards to educational technology.
  • Provide ongoing onsite & virtual training for all division staff to effectively utilize technologies to enhance and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Recommend research-based information and resources to support effective technology applications for school, class and individual levels.
  • Analyze student data response to emerging technologies and assistive technologies to guide programming decisions for individual students, school-based interventions and division-wide best practices.
  • Share knowledge about emerging trends, technologies and research-based instructional practices, especially in the domain of educational technology & assistive technologies.
  • Actively demonstrate and subscribe to the practice of educational leadership.
  • Lead the implementation, resource creation and training for Moodle.
  • Lead the ethical integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom, providing guidelines on generative AI tools for both student use and teacher productivity.
  • Develop and deliver professional (PD) sessions on AI literacy, prompt engineering and he evaluation of AI generative content.
  • Evaluate educational software for pedagogical value, data privacy and alignment with the Alberta Program Studies.
  • Oversee the logistics and management of the Division's digital lending library.
  • Develop digital resources to support staff and student use of digital technologies, educational platforms and tools. Examples are but not limited to: Canva, Power Teacher Pro, Google Workspace.
  • Development and upkeep of reporting outcomes and corresponding resources.
  • Completion of third-party platform privacy impact assessments (PIAs)
  • Assist with Privacy Management Plan in areas that pertain to Technology under the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA)
  • Contribute to achieving the outcomes established for Learning Services and the division.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology

Qualifications

  • Currently hold a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate; or be eligible for one
  • Have experience in following the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and infusing literacy across the curriculum.
  • Possess (or be working toward) a Master’s Degree in a related field;
  • Demonstrate all of the competencies outlined in the Alberta Leadership Quality Standards;
  • Have superior technology skills to be able to work in the divisional context; and
  • A valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license is required. Occasional travel may be required

The Division

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centers, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected Trustees.

The Division is committed to strong professional development and each teacher and principal has the opportunity to apply for up to $2500 per year to support professional learning.
