Role Description

  • We are currently seeking a family law lawyer who will be responsible for handling a variety of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, youth protection, adoption, successions and domestic violence matters. On a day-to-day basis, the lawyer's key responsibilities will be the following:
  • Conduct initial consultations with clients to provide legal advice and evaluate potential strategies.
  • Represent clients before the Superior Court and Court of Quebec (DYP) for safeguard measures, provisional hearings and trials on the merits.
  • Draft letters and legal proceedings including Applications for Divorce, motions for Safeguard Orders and Applications for Accessory Measures.
  • Communicate and negotiate with opposing counsel to reach amicable settlements.
  • Prepare settlement offers and participate in settlement conferences or other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
  • Analyze clients' situations and develop strategies tailored to their specific cases.
  • Conduct legal research using available books and databases to identify supporting case law.
  • Act as primary point of contact for clients while providing empathetic and objective guidance through the legal process.

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with the Quebec Bar.
  • At least 4 years of experience in family law.
  • Experience in negotiations and family litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of family law, including divorce, child custody and support.
  • Familiar with the Superior Court's directives in family matters.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple cases.
  • Strong client management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French. Please note that due to the nature of responsibilities of the position, a proficient level of English is required, in particular to communicate with clients.
