POSITION SUMMARY

The laboratory clerk is one of the key contacts for the Newborn Screening Ontario and is expected to work closely with all Program staff.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Entering and verifying patient information using the appropriate software(s)
  • Obtaining missing information from referral sources as required
  • Retrieving and mailing reports and other materials to health care providers as required
  • Filing
  • Performing duties as required to ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory
  • Cooperating in continuous quality improvement and on-going learning opportunities in the Newborn Screening Program
  • Working effectively as a team member within the Newborn Screening Program
  • Sending submitter report cards quarterly to all hospitals and midwives
  • Running daily data warehouse queries
  • Completing submitter maintenance updates weekly, as required
  • Track any miss-delivered incoming packages, daily as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Criminal Record Check (Essential)
  • High school diploma (Essential)
  • Ability to type 125 key strokes per minute (data entry) (Essential)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail (Essential)
  • Ability to take initiative, work as part of a team and be flexible (Essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills (Essential)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, previous healthcare experience (Preferred)
  • Bilingualism (English / French) (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in excel and running data queries (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Newborn Screening Ontario (Preferred)
  • Timeline may be extended or shortened based on operational needs.

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
