About the Opportunity

The City of Penticton is looking for multiple temporary part-time Skate Patrol individuals, based in Penticton, B.C.

The Summer Skate Patrol is primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service and front-line duties for public skating programs at McLaren Arena.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to the public and user groups.
  • Monitor various programs to ensure a safe environment for all visitors.
  • When birthday parties are booked through Recreation, act as host for birthday parties, leading the event from guest arrival through to conclusion.
  • Educate patrons on safe activities and behaviours.
  • Admission control, process payments, waivers, and skate rentals.
  • Responsible for emergency procedures and providing first aid if required.
  • Set up and take down of necessary program equipment.

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to ice skate confidently and the physical ability to carry out the position's duties.
  • A friendly personality with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with cash in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to resolve conflict and deal firmly with patrons.
  • A current Emergency First Aid certificate or willingness to acquire.
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal record check – vulnerable sector.
  • A commitment to showing up for work each shift and being on time.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and workdays, including weekends and evenings.

Schedule: Various shifts are available and include but are not limited to;

  • Saturdays, 9:45-3:00pm
