Director of Finance
Reporting to the Senior Director of Financial Operations, Canada, with dotted line reporting to the Vice President of the business unit, the Director of Finance is responsible for leading the Finance team in planning, executing, managing and controlling all financial related activities for the division's business while adhering to best-in-class accounting practices, systems, controls and reporting. Specifically, the Director of Finance will have accountability for accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and the maintenance of accurate accounting.
The Director of Finance is a member of the Vice President’s senior leadership team and participates in regular strategic planning and business development discussions.
This position is based in Fort McMurray. Relocation assistance is available for those not local to the area.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop a strong understanding of the division's operations and industry in order to contribute strategic financial advice to support sound business decisions.
- Support senior management in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of budgeting and strategic planning initiatives.
- Lead the preparation and analysis of accurate and timely monthly financial and operating reports and provide financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes based on in-depth analysis and reporting.
- Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements to Senior Management.
- Analyze, communicate and assist Operations in the investigation of monthly spends, variances in budgets, reporting, internal controls, and general accounting; advise on measures to resolve variances.
- Develop systems and key performance measures to appropriately assess financial performance and review progress to ensure strength and continuity of the division's operations to maximize value.
- Manage capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Vice President; administer and review all financial plans and budgets.
- Oversee all accounting functions including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice coding, reconciliation, credits, inventory, etc.
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises.
- Develop, implement and monitor effective internal controls and processes.
- Oversee monthly and year-end financial closing processes.
- Build cost and price strategy modelling in preparation for RFP responses.
- Provide timely support and feedback to both internal and external customers on request.
- Participate in the due diligence and financial modelling for potential merger and acquisition activities.
- Foster a team culture focused on value creation, accountability and enhanced business performance.
- Lead, mentor and inspire the division's finance and accounting team to ensure development of best practices and skills, process improvement, critical and strategic thinking, and pro-active problem solving in support of the business.
Core Competencies
- A bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance, or accounting.
- Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
- Minimum five years' experience in a Senior Finance role (Director, Corporate/Operational Controller, or equivalent) within a fast-paced, geographically dispersed, complex and demanding business environment.
- Demonstrated technical excellence in accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting with the ability to act as both a hands-on technician and strategic level leader.
- Strong working knowledge in financial and operational reporting, analysis and modelling and a demonstrated ability to interpret financial information to provide sound strategic financial advice.
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions.
- Proven ability to develop, lead, challenge and motivate a best-in-class high performing team.
- Strong IT capabilities and advanced working knowledge of ERP solutions and customized reporting tools including J.D. Edwards or similar.

Pay: $160,000.00-$185,000.00 per year
