Overview

The Ward Clerk plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of a hospital unit by providing administrative and clerical assistance. Responsibilities include managing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; maintaining accurate patient records; coordinating communication between physicians, nurses, and departments; answering phones; and ensuring timely processing of orders and documentation.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Strong communication skills, proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and medical terminology, and a commitment to patient confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

  • Medical Secretarial Diploma or Equivalent
  • Medical Terminology
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding skills
  • Documented public relations skills with ability to problem solve effectively

Required Skills

  • Recent Ward Clerk experience in an acute care environment, preferred• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities; multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail with ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Proven interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, decision-making skills, and excellent communication skills required
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-directed to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at AMGH through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
  • Demonstrated excellence in attendance required
  • Ability to work weekends and rotating shifts
