Field Superintendent at Overhead Door Corporation
Role
We have an immediate opening for a Field Superintendent located in the Vancouver/Delta
Branch. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, The Field Superintendent is responsible to supervise in commercial installations, residential installations, and service jobs from the beginning through to completion if needed. This individual will participate in the safety inspections, quality checks, and site checks for all three divisions. The Field Superintendent acts as a liaison between the customer’s site supervisor, the CDS installation teams (sales), and service and installation coordinators (operations).
Responsibilities
- Execute on duties or tasks within the operations department, as assigned by the Field Operations Manager
- Schedule and conduct weekly divisional toolbox meetings, and follow up with written minutes from each
- Participate in hiring and disciplinary conversations as per the FOM request
- When required on the tools completing scheduled work
- Actively on the commercial service on-call, when required
- Providing training and development of field technicians as and when required
- Out of town travel for installation and service work, not limited to weekdays, included evenings and weekends
- Accountable to making sure safety training and tickets are up to date and valid- clearly communicate to scheduler on required renewals- such as Fall Protection, OSSA Elevated Work Platform, Standard First Aid, CSTS, etc.)
- Comfortable with heights (ladders & lifts)
- Must be able to lift at least 75 pounds or more depending on job scope (residential VS commercial)
- Must be able to work outside in all different weather conditions, including cold and extreme heat. Lifting, pulling, climbing, standing, sitting, lying down, squatting and kneeling
- Managing, tracking, and inspecting CDS fleet, equipment and tools, report deficiencies to the FOM
- Conduct and attend project kick off meetings with CDS field crew and customer superintendent
- Create and participate in safety pre-quals- completion of required paperwork by customer
- Communicate efficiently with the customer/general contractor/owner on job i.e.: job statues, issues, and resolutions
- Communicate efficiently with sales for change orders- provide time and material required
- Provide feedback to Coordinators, supporting effective dispatching of technicians, timely completion of work orders and accuracy and timeliness of billing process
- Provide troubleshooting and advice to CDS field crews, to remove barriers and obstacles for job completion via phone, texts, e-mail or in person when required
- Complete quality and safety checks throughout the project cycle when requested by FOM
- Proactively support the CDS safety program and initiatives, comply with all safety policies and procedures (including customer site specific programs), and ensure utilization of safe work practices on site, in the warehouse and office
- Ensure CDS field crew workmanship adheres to CDS quality standards, and identify and implement improvements to standards as appropriate
- Conduct site walk throughs, when requested by FOM to identify and resolve deficiencies, prior to CDS field crew leaving the worksite at project close
- Recommend and implement necessary action to improve revenue generation and profitability within the department
- Maintain consistent customer contact and communication along with aggressive follow up to other involved parties to ensure excellent customer service and growth
- Assist sales personnel and coordinators with technical support, site inspections and labor estimates where required.
- Maintain positive customer relationships, for CDS, in collaboration with the GM, FOM and sales team
- Maintain a positive attitude and communication style with customers and employees in all circumstances
- Communicate new business opportunities and market intelligence to the GM
Qualifications
Skills/Experience Requirements Experience
- 5+ years of progressive experience in project management, coordination, or related function, with 2+ years in a supervisory capacity
- Experience in industry with a service and installation or distribution company, preferably in a construction environment
Intellectual Horsepower
- Must be bright and intelligent; deal with concepts and complexity comfortably; described as intellectually sharp, capable, and agile
Technical & Practical Skills
- Ability to develop and implement processes
- Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements including background check, drug, alcohol, and health assessment
- Welding for installation or repair if required
- Effectively assess job scope at the beginning of each job and note any discrepancies to appropriate scheduler immediately- i.e.: product warranty, site conditions, and safety
- Strong organization and decision-making ability
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, etc.
- Good negotiation skills and persuasive ability
- Ability to present information to internal and external customers
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to read blueprints and understanding of construction terms, scheduling, and planning concepts
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite; Word, Excel, Outlook

- Post-secondary education in engineering, project management, construction management or related field is preferred
