The Cahill Group is seeking eager and dynamic candidates for a Mechanical Estimator/Project Manager position in St. John’s, NL. This role is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of mechanical projects from initial bid through project completion. This role combines estimating, project planning, and project management responsibilities, requiring the ability to develop competitive estimates, manage project execution, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to client expectations.

What will you do?

  • Lead estimating activities including site visits, tender reviews, quantity takeoffs, labour estimates, and bid preparation.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify project risks, opportunities, and execution requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to develop competitive project estimates.
  • Support project start-up activities, ensuring a seamless transition from estimate to execution.
  • Coordinate project resources, procurement activities, and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, productivity, and costs to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Manage project risks, change orders, RFIs, and contract administration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with clients, project teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships and communication.
  • Promote and uphold a culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility on all projects.
  • Support project commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities, ensuring all documentation and contractual requirements are complete.

What will you bring?

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, Engineering Technology diploma, Journeyperson certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Trimble Accubid Software is an asset.
  • Minimum of five years relevant experience in project roles of progressively increasing levels of supervisory responsibility and autonomy.
  • Relevant experience in Commercial/Institutional projects.
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems, mechanical construction practices, and construction drawings.
  • A demonstrated ability to multitask.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A positive management style focused on motivating employees to enjoy their work and to contribute to the company success
