Horizon Health Network in beautiful New Brunswick is looking for an Occupational Safety Coordinator to join our team!

Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking a strong, skilled, adaptable and dedicated individual to join our team as an Occupational Safety Coordinator. This role is responsible for coordinating, implementing, monitoring and continuously improving Occupational Safety programs across Horizon Health Network.

The successful candidate supports organizational compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and standards; assists in identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace hazards; and contributes to the promotion of a strong culture of workplace health, safety, and wellness. This role provides expert guidance and support to managers, employees, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, and Safety Consultants throughout Horizon.

Who you are

You have a minimum of 5 years experience in the occupational health and safety field with progressive responsibilities in a unionized, multi-site environment, preferably within a healthcare setting. You are skilled in managing safety programs across diverse healthcare settings and understand the interrelationship between employee safety, patient safety, and the broader healthcare environment supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.

  • Recognized post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Professional and practiced knowledge of relevant safety legislation and regulatory requirements including the NB Occupational Health and Safety Act, NB Workers Compensation Act
  • Demonstrated experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate OHS programs and initiatives
  • High regard for confidentiality and ethical comportment
  • Ability to deal with contentious situations and negotiate positive results
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong planning, organization, facilitation, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite; Parklane software knowledge an asset
  • Valid New Brunswick Driver’s License and ability to travel as required
  • Good previous work history (performance and attendance)
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level. French considered an asset.

What you will do

  • Carry out the objectives of the Occupational Safety Program and the Psychological Safety Program
  • Provide expert guidance and support to managers, employees, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, and Safety Consultants
  • Providing training and support to employees on safety policy and procedures, and the proper use of safety equipment
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, or near misses to determine root causes and implement preventative measures
  • Oversee compliance with regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions
  • Create and update safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
  • Ensure the organization complies with all relevant occupational health and safety regulations and standards
