Group Division

AEP Cambridge North is a Canadian-owned and operated metal manufacturing company, specializing in prototyping and custom projects. At AEP Cambridge North, we use the latest in cutting-edge technology to provide clients with machining, fabricating, welding, and design support. In business since 1991, we run medium to small production projects in our air-conditioned facility that is conveniently located in Cambridge.

Compensation Range: $33.38 up to $38.00 hourly

Primary Responsibilities

Machine Set-Up and Preparation

  • Interpret and analyze engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
  • Set up 5-axis CNC machines by selecting and installing appropriate tools, fixtures, and attachments.
  • Load raw materials into the machine, ensuring proper alignment and secure positioning.
  • Input and modify CNC programs to match specific job requirements.

Operation and Monitoring

  • Operate 5-axis CNC machines to perform complex tasks such as milling, drilling, and cutting from multiple angles and planes.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure precision and accuracy, making real-time adjustments as needed.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on finished products using precision measuring instruments.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Perform routine maintenance on 5-axis CNC machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or operational issues that arise during machine set-up or production.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians for more complex repairs and preventive maintenance tasks.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all produced parts meet strict quality standards and specifications.
  • Document and report any defects or deviations from specifications, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production output, and maintenance activities.

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.

Required Skills & Expertise

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in CNC machining or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in setting up and operating 5-axis CNC machines.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and CNC programs.
  • Experience using DMG Mori, Starvision, Wieler and/or HAAS CNC machines
  • In-depth knowledge of 5-axis CNC machine operations, including tool selection, machine calibration, and program input.
  • Understands complex datum structures, including those for large weldments.
  • Advanced work-holding for large components.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex mechanical and operational issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials and tools (up to 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks.

Communication and Teamwork

  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Equipment/ Tools/ Technology Used

  • Measuring tools and instruments, such as micrometers, verniers, callipers, height gauges or other specialized measuring instruments
  • 5-Axis CNC machines

Physical Demands

Physical Effort

  • Walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, and repetitive hand / wrist / finger / arm movements while using equipment in order to perform the job.

Physical Environment

  • Manufacturing or workshop environment with exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and potential hazards.
  • Personal Protective Equipment provided and must be worn.

Sensory Attention

  • Attention to detailed drawings relating to the product being manufactured.
  • Constant awareness that manufacturing processes meet customer specifications.
  • Industrial environment with many different processes/manufacturing occurring throughout the building; constant awareness towards safety measures at all times.

  • Pressure to perform at maximum potential to meet Quality Assurance Standards.
