Position Summary
Reporting to a Supervisor of Recreation or designate, the Charge Staff is a part-time, customer-focused position responsible for the day-to-day front desk operations of the Recreation Centre. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patrons, provides functional guidance to on-duty staff, and supports safe, efficient facility operations during assigned shifts. The Charge Staff position plays a key role in delivering excellent customer service, administering program registrations and point-of-sale transactions, coordinating facility rentals and set-ups, and responding to operational and emergency situations as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist all guests entering the facility, providing a welcoming and professional first impression.
- Respond to customer inquiries and concerns in-person, by email and by telephone regarding programs, memberships, services, schedules, and facility use.
- Register customers for programs, memberships, drop-in visits, and facility rentals.
- Process point-of-sale transactions accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
- Enforce municipal and departmental policies related to general facility use in a respectful and consistent manner.
- Provide functional guidance to on-duty staff to ensure operational needs are met, and policies, procedures, and service standards are followed.
- Assist with last-minute staffing or scheduling adjustments, as required, and escalate major concerns to supervisory or on-call staff.
- Monitor facility activity to ensure a safe, orderly, and positive environment for all users.
- Ensure reception and public areas are maintained in a neat, organized, and professional manner.
- Coordinate and confirm facility rental set-ups prior to events.
- Address last-minute rental or event needs to ensure client expectations are met.
- Monitor use of equipment and facilities to ensure Municipal property is respected and used appropriately.
- Respond to incidents and emergency situations in accordance with established procedures.
- Notify on-call or supervisory staff as required and complete documentation and follow-up.
- Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures, facility programs, and operational policies.
- Comply with applicable provincial and municipal legislation, including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Municipality’s Records and Information Management Program.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable legislation, and the Municipality’s Health and Safety Program
- Attend and/or complete all required staff training as assigned.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Post-secondary education in recreation, fitness, physiology, business administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Previous experience working in a recreation, fitness, or customer service focused facility is an asset.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a fast-paced public environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Proficient in computer applications in a Microsoft Windows environment. First Aid and CPR level C with AED is required
Hours of Work and Working Conditions
Hours of work will vary each week to a maximum of 24 hours, with evening and weekend shifts required. This position is employed primarily in an indoor environment with both warm and cold temperatures within the facility.
