The Intern, Barge Operations & Logistics assists and gains hands-on experience in the field of barge transportation, marine logistics, and operational coordination while gaining valuable industry exposure during their internship. The internship will also provide exposure to safety management systems, operational assurance, continuous improvement initiatives, and industry best practices associated with tanker and barge operations, including compliance with TMSA, ISGOTT, and customer operational standards.

With over 130 years of experience navigating in some of the world’s most complex and difficult waters, Seaspan Marine is the largest and most diverse tug & barge company on Canada’s West Coast, providing more than 2,500 ship assist & escort services annually, while our fleet of over 100 specialty and general-purpose barges provide critical transportation for many of BC’s largest industries and major marine construction projects.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

  • Assist in day-to-day operational activities related to barge scheduling, tug and barge dispatch, voyage planning, and marine logistics coordination.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives arising from TMSA reviews, JOHS Committee findings, incident investigations, customer feedback, and operational audits.
  • Support the review, development, and updating of operational procedures, work instructions, risk assessments, and safety documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing the Safety Management System (SMS) Compass to ensure alignment with customer requirements, regulatory expectations, industry best practices, and ISGOTT standards.
  • Support operational compliance initiatives related to OCIMF, TMSA, ISM Code, Transport Canada, WorkSafeBC, and customer vetting expectations.
  • Other duties as required based on observations post TMSA Audit, SIRE inspections

What you'll bring

  • Typically pursuing a degree or diploma in Marine Transportation, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain & Logistics, Transportation & Logistics, Nautical Sciences, Marine Engineering, or Operations Management.
  • Interest in marine transportation, logistics coordination, and operational planning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong customer service and team orientation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively and with minimal supervision

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $28.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

End Date of Internship: Friday, December 18th, 2026 (4-Months).
