Help ensure the safe, secure, and compliant operation of Medicine Hat Airport. As the Coordinator, Airport Regulatory Affairs, you'll play a key role in advancing airport safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working collaboratively with airport staff, tenants, contractors, and regulatory agencies, you'll help administer and enhance programs related to safety management, quality assurance, and security while conducting audits, investigations, and compliance activities that support the Airport's ongoing success.

How you'll own it
- Support and administer airport regulatory programs, including Safety Management Systems (SMS), quality assurance, security, and related operational plans.
- Conduct audits of airport operations, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans.
- Review operational procedures, plans, and documentation, recommending improvements to support regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Assess tenant and user compliance with airport programs, policies, and regulatory requirements, and provide regulatory compliance input on airport design, construction, and development projects.
- Monitor applicable regulations and advisories, and support updates to airport policies, procedures, and operational programs.
- Coordinate safety and security committee activities, including meeting preparation, documentation, and action item tracking.
- Deliver and support training programs for airport staff, tenants, and contractors related to safety, compliance, and operational procedures.
- Monitor operational systems and data, support reporting requirements, and contribute to performance analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support airport noise management activities and collaborate with internal departments and external agencies, including regulatory, enforcement, and emergency response organizations.
- Provide operational support across airport functions, participate in emergency response activities, and maintain accurate records and reports related to compliance, audits, incidents, and regulatory programs.

You may spend one day reviewing airport procedures, investigating incidents, or conducting compliance audits, and the next collaborating with airport partners, supporting training initiatives, or helping implement improvements to safety and security programs.
In this role, you'll:
- Partner with airport staff, tenants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support safe and compliant airport operations.
- Analyze operational data, investigate incidents, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities that help maintain airport certification and operational standards.
- Contribute to emergency preparedness, safety initiatives, and operational planning across the airport.
- Play a key role in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
What you bring
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety management systems, auditing processes, and program administration within a regulated environment.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills, with the ability to identify risks and implement practical solutions.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work effectively, and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal staff, external partners, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to influence and guide others toward compliance and best practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly related to documentation and reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and other computer-based systems.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and safe work practices.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a two-year diploma in Airport or Aviation Management, or a related field, from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Minimum five (5) years of related experience in airport operations, administration, compliance, or a similar regulated environment.
- Experience with safety management systems, auditing, training, or regulatory program administration is considered an asset.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Airport Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP), Restricted Radio Operator's Certificate, and Restricted Area Security Pass (RASP).
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with an acceptable driving record.
- An equivalent combination of management approved education and experience may be considered.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
