The Quality Systems Specialist supports the effective communication, adoption, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS). This role focuses on translating quality processes, system updates, and performance insights into clear, engaging communications for business stakeholders.

The position is responsible for developing high-quality communication materials, including presentations, training content, and process documentation, to support understanding and consistent application of quality processes across the organization.

In addition, the role supports the development, tracking, and reporting of key quality and business performance metrics, enabling data-driven decision making. The Specialist also contributes to the administration and continuous improvement of process management and nonconformance systems, helping ensure system effectiveness, audit readiness, and process integrity.

  • Prepare clear, engaging materials (presentations, updates, newsletters) to communicate QMS initiatives, system changes, and performance insights to business stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain training content, work instructions, templates, and user guides to support adoption and consistent application of quality processes.
  • Support administration and continuous improvement of process management and nonconformance systems (e.g., NCR/CAR), including workflows, data integrity, and user support.
  • Assist in defining KPIs, tracking performance, and producing metrics and visualizations to communicate quality and business performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on improvement opportunities and support implementation of system and process enhancements.
  • Assist with audit preparation, documentation, and follow-up actions to ensure alignment with ISO 9001 standards and internal requirements.
  • Education: Diploma or bachelor’s degree.
    • Change management and/or PMP is an asset.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in quality management, process improvements, or similar.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to or certification in Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
  • Strong presentation development skills.
  • Ability to translate complex processes into clear, user-friendly content.
  • Proficiency in documentation development, workflow administration, and system maintenance.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting (Excel, dashboards, or similar tools).
  • Ability to analyze and improve business processes using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, influence, and build relationships across departments.
  • Stakeholder management skills, including the ability to educate and support business users in adopting quality practices.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
