Maintenance Supervisor

Exempt Level 6 - $81,352 - $103,307 per annum

Hours of Work: 35 hpw, Mid Shift (1:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance, Energy and Environmental Capital Services, the Maintenance Supervisor (Mid Shift: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of buildings and grounds within an assigned area. This includes the supervision of maintenance staff and external contractors to ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Board policies and applicable regulations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Investigate, assess, and process operating, preventative, and predictive maintenance work order requests within the assigned schools.
  • Coordinate and ensure that systems and equipment at Board sites meet regulatory requirements, including fire codes and municipal by-laws; develop maintenance guidelines and procedures, and assist in the development and delivery of related training programs.
  • Support the Request for Proposal (RFP) process by evaluating potential service providers for maintenance-related projects and service contracts; oversee and track air filter and belt replacement programs.
  • Provide guidance to principals on school enhancement requests, including scope definition, specifications, and contractor coordination.
  • Supervise and support maintenance trade staff, including oversight of the afternoon shift, ensuring effective workflow, adherence to Board protocols, and maintenance of confidentiality.
  • Administer service contracts related to operations and maintenance, including Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC components, water treatment, filter replacement, and controls upgrades.
  • Participate in the selection of maintenance staff, the grievance and disciplinary processes, and the coordination and delivery of health and safety training programs.
  • Respond to emergencies as required and participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule; conduct regular site visits for auditing and supervision, with availability to work outside core hours as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Advanced College Diploma in Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 4–5 years of experience in building maintenance, including HVAC, BAS, and construction project management.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle (eligible for mileage reimbursement).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a unionized environment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Health and Safety legislation, Ministry of Labour standards, and applicable collective agreements.
  • Strong customer service orientation with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., eBase Project Manager).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
