What You’ll Be Doing
Are you a student looking to gain skills and support the delivery of residential energy efficient programs this summer? Clean Foundation is looking for a Retrofit Operations Jr. Coordinator to join our team as a Clean Leader Intern!
As a member of the Energy Department, you will support the ongoing work with homeowners, contractors, municipalities, and industry partners to implement practical solutions that improve the comfort, affordability, and sustainability of buildings.
The Energy Department combines technical expertise in building science and energy systems with strong program delivery capabilities, coordinating work between energy advisors, contractors, and community partners to ensure projects are implemented effectively and in alignment with program and funder requirements.
If you are comfortable problem solving, have strong communication skills, and enjoy operational coordination this role may be right for you. You will be assisting with the coordination of retrofit activities across Clean Foundation’s Trade Partner Network.
• Highschool Diploma
• 0–2 years of experience in residential construction, building science, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of residential construction and retrofit measures including insulation, air sealing, HVAC, windows, and doors.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
• Ability to support multiple projects in a structured environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools including Excel.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• obtained or are working towards obtaining a diploma in construction, building and manufacturing, or another relevant field.
• Knowledge of building codes.
• Trade-related training.
• CRM or database experience.
• Non-profit sector experience.
• First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification.
• A Cape Breton address or a willingness to travel to Cape Breton for site visits.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute to managing the flow of retrofit projects from planning through completion, supporting coordination between homeowners, contractors, and program teams. The Junior Coordinator supports project momentum and helps ensure work aligns with approved scopes, timelines, and quality standards.
• Assisting in coordinating contractor participation across retrofit projects, including onboarding support and work order distribution.
• Support maintaining working relationships with contractors.
• Assist in monitoring contractor schedules and progress.
• Escalate contractor-related issues to senior staff.
• Assist in coordinating retrofit projects.
• Support review of upgrade plans for alignment with program guidelines.
• Track project progress and flag delays or risks.
• Support coordination of project phases.
• Participate in site visits as required.
• Assist in reviewing contractor documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Support ensuring work aligns with approved scopes and program requirements.
• Assist with basic quality assurance and customer service issue tracking.
