Standard Schedule: 7.5 hours daily (M-F), additional hours as required / while in camp.

Compensation: $137,000 - $185,500 + additional cash incentives

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Field Operations the Superintendent, Field Operations leads safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all Galore Creek Project site activities. This role makes day-to-day operational decisions, and is responsible for work planning and execution, supervision, workforce leadership, health & safety enforcement. In the absence of the Manager, Field Operations, this role assumes the role of Mine Manager under the BC Mines Act with full accountability.

The position can be performed remotely within British Columbia, and potentially elsewhere in Western Canada, though offices in Smithers and Vancouver, British Columbia are available. Time at the Galore Creek Project site is also an expectation. As the Project continues to develop, a transition to regular full-time camp rotations will be expected in approximately the next 12-18 months. The schedule is subject to changes based on evolving field and project planning and business requirements. Rotational travel and site accommodations are provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure GCMC’s commitment to excellence by recognizing our core values of health and safety, people, responsible development, continuous improvement and innovation, and integrity.
  • Oversee and contribute site leadership for all field operations across the Galore Creek project, ensuring that all work is performed safely and efficiently, including supervision of contractors.
  • Act as an alternate Mine Manager for the Project, registered with the British Columbia Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals (MCM), responsible for the site when the Mine Manager is off site.
  • Verify that necessary inspections are completed, hazards are identified, risks assessed, and controls implemented.
  • Ensure all incidents, near hits, and positive reporting events are documented, investigated, and closed out.
  • Enforce regulatory requirements, permits, and life-saving rules.
  • Lead visible safety leadership in the field, coaching frontline supervisors, ensuring they have the authority and accountability to manage their crews.
  • Address personnel performance, conduct, or behavior issues promptly.
  • Support supervisor development and succession planning.
  • Ensure operations comply with the BC Mines Act, the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC, permit conditions, and environmental requirements.
  • Assist in the development and management of contracts.
  • Oversee safe use, condition, and inspection of infrastructure and equipment.
  • Identify maintenance and resource needs; escalate gaps before they impact operations.
  • Prevent unauthorized infrastructure or process changes.
  • Contribute to the design, budgeting, planning, and contracting for field programs in close collaboration with other members of the Project Team to ensure that field programs provide the type and quality of data required and are delivered on time and on budget.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years progressive operational experience, preferably in mining and/or construction. Experience managing helicopter supported drill programs is considered a strong asset.
  • Though not required, it is considered an asset if you have post-secondary education in Engineering, Geoscience or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Hold at least a valid BC Mine Supervisor Certificate (required). A Shiftboss Certificate for Open Pit Mines is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Skills

  • Effective communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences (written and verbal).
  • Proven experience leading daily site operations meetings and ensuring the Health & Safety Management System is effective and consistently applied.
  • Strong leadership, and collaboration skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others, support employees, and ensure a safe, healthy, inclusive workforce.
  • Ability collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (technical, regulatory, environmental, executive).
  • Proven ability to support and strengthen positive, trusting relationships with Indigenous Peoples and Communities of Interest, being mindful of social risk.
