Summary

Under the direction of a System Principal , the Lead Technology & Design Teacher will work as part of a team to reimagine and develop a technology education learning strategy that emphasizes the design process to solve real-world problems, review current school technology offerings, support school program development in partnership with Experiential Learning , and provide input into the strategic direction for technology education, grades 7-12, across the district. Collaborating closely with the Student Success Learning Partner leading SHSM, Dual-Credit, and Co-op, the Lead Technology & Design Teacher will have responsibility for the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) , including Skills Competition s . The Lead Technology & Design Teacher will work as part of a team to make student learning visible across the Upper Canada District School Board in the service of student achievement, well-being, and engagement for all.

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated and extensive interpersonal communication skills to support educator confidence in delivering innovative technology-based learning, with a 7-12 focus.

  • Demonstrated experience bringing innovation and real-world experiencesto the classroom.

  • Demonstrated capacity for creating cross-curricular learning experiences for students.

  • Demonstrated experience in guiding projects that feature the design process, student making, and contribution to community.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating on the development of innovative ideas/projects from ideation, through to design and implementation.

  • Demonstrated experience in the creation of inclusive learning environments and in addressing achievement and opportunity gaps.

  • A track record of implementing innovative approaches to build successful programs and pathways for students.

  • Implement and support Ministry of Education initiatives that drive the UCDSB’s Director’s Work Plan.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and relational skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team to plan for, develop, and implement professional learning experiences for educators across the UCDSB.

  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Ability to support innovation and creative risk-taking while ensuring a safe and supportive environment that will enhance student learning and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with other system-team members to support learning, programming, and opportunities in OYAP, skilled trades, co-op, dual credit, and Experiential Learning.

  • Facilitate the development of resources in the school board to support design enabled learning and teaching, including input into the strategic direction for Technology programming, grades 7-12, across the district.

  • Work with other Learning Partners to co-plan, facilitate and support system wide initiatives.

  • Work with other Learning Partners to co-plan, facilitate and support learning for principals, teachers and students.

  • Implement and support Ministry of Education initiatives including but not limited to the Renewed Math Strategy, Literacy, FSL, Early Learning, Equity, Indigenous Education, Special Education, Student Success, Building the Workforce of Tomorrow, Re-engagement, Career-Life Planning, Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship and Apprenticeships .

  • Support innovative teaching practices enabled by the design process to more precisely engage and address the learning needs of all students .

  • Assist teachers in implementing high impact classroom practices that directly impact student learning and engagement (differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, assessment and evaluation, skills and competency development, experiential learning opportunities, Social-Emotional Learning, etc.).

  • Co-plan and co-organize learning opportunities for students .

Qualifications and Experience

  • Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification
  • Secondary Qualifications in Technology (preferred)
  • Varied industry experience with links to the Skilled Trades.
  • Member of the Ontario College of Teachers in good standing
  • Demonstrated expertise implementing projects from beginning to end.
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience
  • Extensive experience with Experiential Learning projects that feature the design process.
  • Highly innovative approaches to teaching and learning which create cross-curricular opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning beyond the walls of school.

Conditions

  • Salary Grid plus travel allowance
  • Term - one year only, 2026/2027 (at end of the term, returns to home school)
  • Travel to various locations may be required
